"Bridgerton" is getting an unexpected twist for its third season!

Nicola Coughlan, who plays “Penelope Featherington” on the hit Netflix show, has confirmed that the upcoming season will follow “Colin and Penelope’s love story.”

She wrote on Instagram,

"Like Lady Whistledown I've been keeping quite a big secret for quite a long time... but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope's Story."

New showrunner Jess Brownell recently elaborated on the big decision, telling Variety,

"I really feel like it's Colin and Penelope's time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people.”

She added,

"Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up."

The hit Netflix show, which is based off the best-selling romance novels by Julia Quinn, will stray away from the novels in the third season. The third novel did not focus on Penelope and Colin as the season will; It highlighted Benedict Bridgerton and the surprising love he finds.
