During an interview with BBC's Newscast podcast, the Duke of Cambridge talked about the urgency for tackling the climate change crisis. His remarks on the issue focused on the way billionaires are deciding to spend their economical resources to fly to space.

Prince William criticized this behavior, stating that repairing our planet is of the utmost importance.

"We need some of the world's greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live."

He then continued raising awareness on climate anxiety that is currently spreading at a fast pace, especially amongst younger generations.

"We are seeing a rising in climate anxiety. Young people now growing up where their futures are basically threatened the whole time. It's very unnerving."

Furthermore, Prince William stated it would be "an absolute disaster" if his 8-year-old son Prince George would still have to address the same crisis 30 years from now.

"It would be an absolute disaster if George sat here talking to you still saying the same thing because by then we'd be too late."

The Royal comments came out exactly one day after the Star Trek star William Shatner became the oldest person to go to space, traveling on the Blue Origin rocket, developed by wealthy entrepreneur Jeff Bezos.

But Shatner's not the first one that has traveled to space this year. Several wealthy entrepreneurs have done the same like Richard Branson in July on a plane developed by his company, Virgin Galactic. Elon Musk has also founded SpaceX and most recently, four tourists have been carried on a three days orbital mission.

This is not the first time, however, that Prince William shows his support for environmental issues.

He has indeed launched the Earthshot Prize, which has the main goal to find solutions to the planet's problems through the use of technologies and new policies.

In a video released by BBC Imagine What Might Be Possible, the Duke of Cambridge explained the goal of the Earthshot Prize. The first five winners will be announced on October 17th at Alexandra Palace and each one of them will collect 1.4 million dollars.

"Each year until 2030 we will award we will award five 1 million prizes to those who we believe can transform our chances of repairing our planet within the decade."

But no matter how unsettling the situation may be right now, Prince William aims at switching the conversation into a more hopeful one.

"This is a moment for hope not fear. A better sustainable future is within reach. We just have to grasp it."
