Nearly five years after Blac Chyna filed a lawsuit against the Kardashians, her case is heading to trial.
Haven't been keeping up? In 2016, Chyna starred in her own "Kardashians" spinoff with then-boyfriend, Rob Kardashian, through E! called "Rob & Chyna." The series was cancelled once they split in December, with Chyna filing the suit quickly after in 2017.
In the suit, Chyna alleges that the Kardashian family was behind the cancellation of the show's second season. She's now suing the clan for defamation, as well as suing Rob for assault, battery, and harassment, seeking upwards of $100 million in damages in total. Court proceedings began on April 18, with Rob and Chyna present alongside their lawyers, as well as Kim, Khloe, Kris and Kylie.
Chyna's attorney used her opening statement to detail the alleged racist texts from mother of the family, Kris Jenner, to the showrunner on "Rob & Chyna." The texts called Chyna "stupid," accusing her of "being drunk for three days," describing her as "really ghetto" and suggesting that they should "ditch the b--ch."
In turn, the Kardashian's attorney, Michael Rhodes, used his opening statement to address texts from February 2017 that Chyna sent shortly after their breakup. Chyna allegedly texted Rob a string of belittling messages, some which read, "It's over," and called him a "fat bitch," adding that his "disgusting sex is horrible." Rhodes also said that the messages came on the very same day that E! Network executives were "still trying to save the show."
Chyna also addressed the 2016 incident where she allegedly attempted to strangle Rob with an iPhone cord, claiming she put the cord around his neck to get his attention “jokingly,” and “not to strangle him.” She admitted to knowing about the unloaded gun Kardashian kept, but denied ever aiming it at him.
Chyna then detailed her past friendship with Kim, and how the Kardashian ended their relationship once her sister Kylie began dating Chyna's ex, Tyga. The alleged violent incident from 2016 took place in a home belonging to Kylie, who claimed she planned to gift the house to the couple, even creating a nursery for their young daughter.
Chyna's lawyer shared unaired footage from season two of "Rob & Chyna" that shows "no damage in the home" itself, but conceded that Chyna still did damage to "holiday gingerbread houses, a door and a TV."
Rob filed a declaration in 2020 regarding the violent incidents, saying,
"I believed that she could kill me… that she could slip up and shoot me accidentally. Moreover, I am well-aware of Chyna's tendency to act violently toward me and others… further causing me to fear for my life."
He dismissed the lawsuit in February 2022.
