The parents of popstar Miley Cyrus have opened up on their most recent divorce filing.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus have broken their silence on their divorce filing.

The couple released a joint statement where they addressed the recent change in their lives. They said,

"It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways—not with sadness, but with love in our hearts. We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths."

The couple is committed to keep things amicable, insisting that they did not "come to this decision lightly or quickly." They continued,

"We will always be family and look forward to a continued and loving shared experience as friends and parents. With so much going on in the world, we wanted to provide some clarity and closure, so we can remain focused on what is important."

According to court documents, Tish filed on April 6 to divorce the country star after more than twenty eight years of marriage on the basis of "irreconcilable differences." In the filing, she notes that she and Billy Ray haven't lived together for over two years.

This is the third time the two have split since first marrying in 1993. Tish and Billy Ray first filed for divorce back in 2010, but announced a few months later that they were "trying to work through some personal matters."

They filed for divorce again three years later, with Billy Ray calling the decision, "what is in the best interest of our family." They were back together ten days later.

In a 2013 statement, the couple opened up on the decision,

"We both woke up and realized we love each other and decided we want to stay together. We both went into couples therapy, something we haven't done in twenty two years of being together, and it's brought us closer together and really opened up our communication in amazing ways."

The second case was dismissed in 2017. Around the time, Miley Cyrus commented on her parents' relationship in a Cosmopolitan interview, where she shared,

"One thing I've learned about marriage from my parents: Nothing and no one stays the same. Grow, evolve, change with each other and celebrate your love's journey."
