October is known as breast cancer awareness month and 2020 is no different. Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, fighters and survivors are raising awareness for the deadly disease.
Staying healthy during the spread of Coronavirus is especially important for those fighting cancer. The virus also poses a higher threat to survivors as well.
Breast cancer survivor, Dauzat St. Marie, explained:
"You know, we were excited about getting our life back on track and then this pandemic happened and pretty much all of us were told to stay back in our house to protect everybody. And, that was the realistic and right thing to do."
The annual MORE THAN PINK Walk was forced to be held remotely this year, in order to limit the spread of COVID-19...especially for those at risk. The walk, which was founded by the Susan G. Komen foundation, aims to raise funds while bringing awareness to the disease which affects over 250,000 patients each year.
As a part of the new virtual setting, the Susan G. Komen foundation has set up a helpline to offer mental health services during this difficult time.
