On Wednesday, we got our first look at Army of Thieves, the upcoming prequel to Zack Snyder's acclaimed zombie heist film Army of the Dead, which was recently released on Netflix. Snyder himself tweeted out the spoiler images, which show that the movie will focus on the safe-cracker Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer).

Though the images reveal that this is Dieter's origin story, they gave little away about the plot. It seems as though Dieter will be well within his area of expertise, since nearly every picture seems to hint at some kind of heist. Also in the photos are actors Nathalie Emmanuel (who has appeared in the Fast & Furious films since Furious 7 and played Missandei in Game of Thrones), Scottish actor Stuart Martin (Game of Thrones), Guz Khan (who appeared alongside Emmanuel in Mindy Kaling's Four Weddings and a Funeral miniseries), French actor Jonathan Cohen, and relative newcomers Ruby O. Fee and Noémie Nakai. None of these actors were present in Army of the Dead, so it will be interesting to see what happens to their characters in the prequel.

A synopsis for film was also announced separately from the spoiler images: "in this prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol's most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe."

Army of Thieves will be directed by Schweighöfer and written by Snyder and Shay Hatten, who co-wrote the original. The film is scheduled to be released on Netflix in late 2021.
