CBS

Anna Faris is saying goodbye to her character "Christy" in the hit Chuck Lorre sitcom 'Mom.'

Anna Faris is saying 'goodbye' to the beloved CBS sitcom Mom after seven seasons.

The actress has decided to "pursue new opportunities," sharing in a statement:

"The past seven years on 'Mom' have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I'm so thankful to Chuck, the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I'll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family."

Though the show will be losing Faris, it will proceed with her costar Allison Janney for an eighth season. Production is set to begin filming later this month.

Mom follows two recovering alcoholics (Faris and Janney) through the many peaks and valleys of their struggling mother-daughter relationship. Though the show initially focused solely on Faris' and Janney's characters, it later branched out, becoming an ensemble-focused sitcom. Mom also stars Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall and Kristen Johnston.

CBS has not yet revealed how the show will address Faris' departure, but fans won't have to wait too long. The change will be explained in the season premiere.

In a joint statement, CBS, Warner Bros., and show creator Chuck Lorre said:

"From the inception of Mom, Anna was the first and only choice for the role of Christy. We are so proud of the stories we have been able to tell during Anna's seven years with us. We wish Anna all the best, and we thank her for her beautiful portrayal."

You can watch seasons one through seven of Mom on Hulu.
