Alec John Such, a founding member of the glam-rock band Bon Jovi, died yesterday at age 70. His death was announced by Bon Jovi on social media.

“We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend Alec John Such. He was an original. As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was integral to the formation of the band. To be honest, we found our way to each other thru him — He was a childhood friend of Tico and brought Richie to see us perform. Alec was always wild and full of life. Today these special memories bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. We will miss him dearly.” Jovi writes.

Born in Yonkers, New York, on November 14, 1951, John Such created a name for himself early on, in the New Jersey music scene. He joined Bon Jovi in the early '80s. He played in Queen tribute Phantom’s Opera and in The Message with future bandmate Richie Sambora before joining forces with Jon Bon Jovi in 1983.

Such left Bon Jovi in 1994, citing burnout, but then reunited with the band when the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

At this point, no cause of death has been given.
