Prime Video just released the first teaser trailer for its new TV adaptation of the movie "A League of Their Own."
Starring Abbi Jacobson, D'Arcy Carden and Nick Offerman, this first trailer was jam-packed with quick action and spicy cuts.
The series comes 30 years after its predecessor premiered in theaters. Following a professional female baseball league in the midst of WWII, the original 1992 movie explored their journey in overcoming sexual discrimination and gaining respect as legitimate athletes.
According to the official description, Prime Video promises this adaptation "takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writers Will Graham and Jacobson, who stars as Carson, said they wanted to create discussions about the issues the real-life athletes faced.
"We grew up with the movie, and the more we started to explore the real stories underneath it, we saw that there was an opportunity here to tell a story that was broader and included a lot of perspectives that weren't there the first time, but with the same sense of heart and humor and unpretentious fun that everybody loves about the movie," Graham said.
Jacobson added,
"It's definitely something that the movie and Penny Marshall hinted at, but we really wanted to expand it."
The series premieres on Aug. 12 on Prime Video, so don't forget your Cracker Jacks!
