Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared this message on National Voter Registration Day.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle addressed American voters in a television broadcast yesterday. The royal couple appeared on the ABC special which was announcing this year's 2020 TIME 100. In their address, they reminded Americans of the importance of voting and healthy discourse as politics become more divided.

The 2020 TIME 100 was the unveiling of this year's list of the world's 100 most influential people. TIME Magazine creates the list every year with careful considerations. Two years ago, Prince Harry and Megan Markle were added to that list in recognition of their "growing global influence."

In the video, the pair sat down and began by congratulating this year's list. The then quickly shifted gears and put the spotlight on the upcoming election. Markle emphasized:

"Every four years we are told the same thing...that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But, this one is."

She continued:

"When we vote, our values are put into actions and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter. Because you do. And, you deserve to be heard."

Prince Harry explained that he will be unable to vote in the U.S. election, just as he has never voted before in the U.K. He pleaded that viewers take caution of what and how they consume online. Citing hate speech and misinformation, the Duke of Sussex agreed what we need is compassion.

"When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realize it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourself in someone else's shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially."

Election day in the U.S. will be Tuesday, November 3rd.
