On Wu-Tang Clan's hit single, Method Man chants "cash rules everything around me!" But... what was life for the Wu-Tang Clan like before the cash?
Hulu's Wu-Tang: An American Saga takes fans back in time... to the iconic hip-hop group's inception.
The leader of the Wu-Tang clan, RZA, is one of the creators of the show. One of the other leading member's of the group, Ghostface Killah, is portrayed by Siddiq Saunderson — the breakout star of the series.
"Ghostface is very much a family man, and about family and loyalty to the people that he loves and cares about," Saunderson said.
In season one of Wu-Tang: An American Saga, the show dived into the relationship between Ghostface and RZA's sister Shurrie. Zolee Griggs, who plays Shurrie, opened up on the role.
"There's a lot of unanswered questions. So, of course there was a lot of pressure. The writers did an amazing job," Griggs said.
Season two will follow the creation of the group's debut studio album, 36 Chambers. Since its release in 1993, it has become widely referred to as one of the most influential hip hop albums ever.
Erika Alexander, who plays Linda Diggs, shared her passion behind the group's legacy.
"I'm excited to give them the Wu-Tang. Everybody should embrace this history. This is not Black history, it's American history. These are your stories as much as they are mine. We should embrace them like we embrace jazz, hip-hop, rock and roll... all these things," Alexander said.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga is streaming now on Hulu.
