Celebrating Women's Equality Day

Our #SeeHER Spotlight Celebrates Women's Equality Day | Celebrity Page
Women's Equality Day commemorates and celebrates the long struggle for Women's Suffrage. With the certification of the 19th Amendment on August 26th, 1920, women won the fundamental right to vote.

The story of the fight for Women's Suffrage is as old as the United States itself. Since the birth of the new nation, through the Civil War and up until ratification, women organized, protested, and politically strategized, demanding their voices be heard. The names of the pioneers of the women's movement are written in history, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and Ida B. Wells-Barnett to name just a few. The campaign for women's rights continued with women such as Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Coretta Scott King, and New York Congresswoman Bella Abzug who was the architect of the bill that designated August 26th as Women's Equality Day, picking up the flag and moving the needle.

Join Advocate Channel, Citibank US and SeeHer in celebrating Women's Equality Day with insights from some of the voices that continue to represent women, women of color and those in the #LGBTQ+ community in the struggle against discrimination and disenfranchisement today and everyday.
