The couple announced their marriage today on Good Morning America.

It was 23 years ago that Jonathan Irons was wrongfully convicted for breaking into a home and shooting the homeowner. Ten years ago, WNBA star Maya Moore met Irons through a prison ministry program. Now, after two years of fighting for his release, the pair have announced their marriage on Good Morning America.

Moore has won a total of four WNBA championships but stepped off of the court last year to dedicate her time fighting for justice. Her and Irons had become good friends as she worked to free him and fight the criminal justice system. Upon being freed, Irons got down on one knee and proposed.

Moore explained:

"Over the last 13 years we have just developed a friendship and just entered into this huge battle to get him home and just over time it was pretty clear what the Lord was doing in our hearts and now we're sitting here today, starting a whole new chapter together."

The pair continue to fight for justice, currently advocating for the get-out-the-vote campaign and hope their case will allow for future reform.
