The US Women's National Soccer Team was stunned by Canada today in a 1-0 loss.

We have grown used to seeing the US women's soccer team dominate on the global level for years and years so this loss shocked all of us. The Canadian team scored a penalty kick in the 75th minute, leaving the US very little time to come up with a game-tying goal.

This has not been a hugely successful tournament for the team in general as the US has been shutout three times in the 2021 Olympic tournament already. The offense has been struggling greatly which has now finally resulted in a loss.

Canada Women's Soccer Will Play Sweden

This is the first loss for the US team against Canada in 20 years as the US beat Canada in the 2008 Olympic quarterfinals and the 2012 Olympic semifinals.

"That's football. They got one shot on goal on the PK [penalty kick] and from what it sounds like, it was a PK. So, yeah, it was a bitter one to swallow. Obviously, we never want to lose to Canada. I don't think I've ever lost to Canada. So it's a bitter one. But still a lot to compete for. It's not the color we want, but there's still a medal on the line and we want to win that game. But this sucks." -Megan Rapinoe post-game

US Women's Soccer Playing For Bronze

With this loss, the US will now be playing against Australia on Thursday for the bronze medal. The Canadian team will be fighting for gold against Sweden. Many are blaming coaches rather than the players for the loss; some are already calling for replacements for some hope in future World Cup and Olympic tournaments.

US fans may be angry or upset and it may not be what anyone expected, but let's hope that the women can pull together the win for the bronze medal on Thursday.

Best of luck to the USWNT and there will be more news to follow in the coming months as some big pieces are sure to be moved around.
