The US Women's National Soccer Team will settle for a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
They competed against Australia, with a final score of 4-3. The stars of the team, Megan Rapione and Carli Lloyd, both scored two goals in what is said to be their final matches in a major tournament. Lloyd's second goal made her the USWNT's leading goal scorer with over 10 goals in Olympic history.
"I think that I've had a different mindset going into this one," Lloyd said. "I haven't made any official announcements yet, but obviously I am at the tail end of my career. Physically, I feel really good, but at some point, I have to hang up the boots and live life."
In the Semifinals, the US team was defeated by the Canadian team in a 1-0 score, making them unable to compete for the gold medal. However, they didn't let this get them down.
I feel like we just got to a good place." Said Rapione after her team secured the Bronze medal. "We might as well just be a little bit more free, trust in ourselves, trust in each other".
