The new comedy United States of Al is quickly becoming a hit for CBS!
Parker Young and Adhir Kalyan star as best friends who met in Afghanistan serving in the war.
Young plays a veteran, while Kalyan plays his former translator.
"He comes to the United States to start a new life and in turn helps me to get back on my feet and start to put the pieces back together in this new life as a civilian," Young said.
Despite their differences on paper, Kalyan explains the special bond seen throughout the show.
"The show's about connection, it's about the friendship, loyalty, family... respect of where you're from and your experience. It's something that we can all relate to on some level," Kalyan said.
The show delves into the difficulties for veterans to come home and how it impacts those around them.
"It's a challenging situation, it's a very real one and hopefully through telling the story, we're able to help anybody going through that not feel so alone and just normalize the experience of coming home and readjusting," Young said.
Produced by Chuck Lorre, who also created The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon and Two and a Half Men, brings plenty of humor to the show.
"Hopefully when people watch this, they'll laugh, sometimes they'll cry, but they'll hopefully take away something from watching the show and we're excited to be able to share with everyone," Kalyan said.
New episodes of United States of Al air Thursday nights on CBS.
