The cast for the star-studded Disney remake includes: Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. While speaking to Variety on playing Ariel, Bailey said:
"I don't pay attention to the negativity; I just feel like this role is something bigger than me"

While talking on the film, Miranda stated:
"Halle Bailey is going to be such an incredible Ariel, and getting to write music for these characters that are probably the reason I started writing musicals in the first place, it was actually easier than I thought."
The film is set to debut in theaters on November 19th, 2021.
