Our newest Disney Princess has spoken out against her casting backlash.

After being cast to play Arielle in the upcoming The Little Mermaid remake, Halle Bailey says she's only focusing on positives. 

The 19 year old singer and actress unintentionally sparked a wave of controversy with her casting announcement last month. While many fans were thrilled at the news of a new black Disney princess, others expressed some serious anger. The internet quickly turned to a cesspool of ignorance, even starting a Twitter hashtag called #NotMyAriel. However, the Disney Princess told sources on Tuesday that she's ignoring the negativity. 

The actress tells reporters:

"I'm just grateful and I  don't pay attention to the negativity."

Other member's of Hollywood spoke out against the racist remarks, including the original voice of Ariel, Jodi Benson. At the pop culture convention Florida Supercon, she tells a room of fans her feelings on the casting and the subsequent controversy:

"The spirit of a character is what really matters. What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart and their spirit is what really counts."

Most details on the upcoming remake are still in the works, including who Halle Bailey's co-stars will be. The Prince Eric casting is generating a lot of buzz, with rumors going around that Harry Styles is being considered for the role. When asked, Bailey told reporters:

"I think anyone would be great for the role"

Harry Styles or not, we're excited to see anyone as long as they're singing Part of Your World alongside Halle Bailey! If you're upset about this casting, take a walk, read a book, or do anything that helps you realize that fact that you're angry about a Disney movie.
