Country star TJ Osborne, part of the country duo Brothers Osborne, announced via TIME that he is gay, a move that received a large wave of support from Nashville and country music community.
One of the first people to celebrate TJ's announcement was fellow country star and friend Kacey Musgraves, who told TIME,
"Others will now feel invited to the country music party for the first time. Country music deserves a future even more honest than its past."
"Never been happier to be a brothers Osborne fan" tweeted fellow country singer Jordan Davis, "I'm happy to call you a friend T.J".
Jon Freeman on Twitter
Jon Freeman, an editor for the popular magazine RS Country, remarked on how the previous work of Brothers Osborne was relatable in that he felt it exuded the loneliness associated with being queer.
The Brothers hopped on Instagram live yesterday to thank everyone for the wave of support after TJ's announcement, saying he "feels more honest with himself now".
Maren Morris on Twitter
Maren Morris, a longtime friend of the band, who created the track All My Favorite People with Morris, congratulated Osborne as well.
Coming out takes a great deal of personal courage and acceptance, especially to the entire world. Congratulations on being who you are, TJ.
