Just For Laughs Goes Online!

While the exact format of the virtual event is still unknown, JFL will be a free interactive event that includes panelists, conversations, performances, and online gatherings taking place on October 9-10 of this year. Bruce Hills, president of JFL, told THR about how the organizers of this event are thinking about formatting this virtual festival. Hills says:

"Certainly nothing compares to the energy of a live audience in a comedy club, hall or arena. However, pivoting with the current times, comedians are finding new ways to make audiences laugh. [...] Some comedians have found creative ways to team up with other comedians to engage audiences with more conversational type shows."

While it was expected for the event to go fully online due to the present global situation, JFL is trudging on and will release the exact plan for the virtual version of their festival as it gets closer to October. In a statement regarding this transition to a virtual platform, Hills says:

"With no precise indication of when borders will reopen, and faced with soaring demand for high-quality digital comedy content, we've made the decision to move our festival online, while always maintaining our focus on the excellence of our offerings – an excellence that is recognized and appreciated throughout the world."
