Abrams is never one to shy from lofty goals and big plots, so expect the start of a franchise, really. The man who kicked off the last Star Wars trilogy is prone to big moments and big questions.

With Henry Cavill's portrayal of the Man of Steel falling flat for many fans, and the Superman character in general losing traction over the last few years, it's time for a big change, a change Abrams and Coates can deliver.

In addition, it's also been reported that the Superman character will be black this time around, following suit with Marvel's recent adaptations of other prominent heroes like Captain America and Spider Man.

Coates said of his involvement to Shadow and Act, "I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America's most iconic mythic hero."
