Hype is building for the release of "The Suicide Squad", the new sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad. Yesterday, some of the film's stars added fuel to the flames by "leaking" the latest trailer for the film.
John Cena (Peacemaker), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), and several other stars from the film individually posted the new trailer on social media. Director James Gunn jokingly scolded them on social media, but 24 hours later the trailer is still up, so it seems like it's here to stay.
It seems like Margot, Jai, @TheSlyStallone @JohnCena @idriselba @flula @MelchiorDaniela @NathanFillion @MelchiorDaniela @dastmalchian @AliceBraga @cosio_joaquin and that SOB @joelkinnaman have already done that earlier than expected. How dare they. #TheSuicideSquadhttps://twitter.com/morrojarcor/status/1407371981071159302\u00a0\u2026— James Gunn (@James Gunn) 1624379058
Though much of the film's plot remains a secret, it seems as though the new Suicide Squad will be headed by Elba's character, with help from the zesty Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie. Their team will travel to a mysterious island and face off with Starro the Conqueror, a giant telepathic alien. However, it's unlikely that this will be the main focus of the movie, as Gunn boasted that an enormous amount of twists await audiences.
In addition to Cena, Robbie, and Elba, The Suicide Squad features Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Sylvester Stallone, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Taika Waititi, Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker, and Nathan Fillion. The movie simultaneously releases on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6th, 2021.
