Is Jennifer Nettles ready for the bright lights of Broadway? The answer is YES!
Jennifer Nettles is known for being one-half of the country music duo Sugarland. However, when Hannah and I caught up with her on the red carpet at this year’s Miscast show, she let us in on one of her big Broadway dreams!
“Myself being from the south, if I thought of something in that realm, maybe [I would want to do] Show Boat," says the singer-songwriter. “Doing it completely anachronistic, where it’s not beholden to the time in which it is set, could be a lot of fun.”
Jennifer Nettles wasn’t the only one on the red carpet with a stage role in mind! In the spirit of Miscast, which allows actors a chance to perform in roles of a different race or the opposite gender, Michael Potts says that he would love the chance to play Mrs. Lovett!

The event presents actors with roles that are usually reserved for the opposite gender or a different race, and aims to ignore all previously set ‘rules’ about casting. But is the entertainment industry as a whole becoming more inclusive in this regard? Michael Potts says that times are changing, but there still is work to be done.
“There’s a way to go. What is great about what’s happening now is more directing and more scripts by women and people of color. I’m not ready to say we have gotten there yet; there is still some ways to go.”
