The “Star Wars” franchise has defended co-star Moses Ingram after she received hundreds of racist hate messages following her debut with the series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
According to Ingram, the actress' inbox was flooded with racial insults, threats, and slurs. Some even called her role as the villain Reva a “diversity hire."
Ingram took to Instagram via video and said,
“The thing that bothers me most about this, is this feeling inside of myself, which no one has told me, but to shut up and take it. But I am not built like that.”
The “Star Wars” franchise promptly posted to their Twitter in support, stating,
"We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in anyway unwelcome, we have one thing to say: we resist.”
Ewan McGregor, star and executive producer of the series, also took to the “Star Wars” Twitter, sharing,
"We stand with Moses. We love Moses. If you are sending her hateful messages, you are no Star Wars fan in my mind.”
Ingram later took to Instagram, rose above the hate, and shared,
“The love is louder. It overflows. Thank you.”
Despite the negativity, the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is the network's most-watched premiere ever. The show debuted on May 27th and will continue to stream new episodes every Wednesday through June 22.
