John Oliver is back in his COVID void for the new season of his satirical news series Last Week Tonight. Ranker and Watchworthy are here to give us some insight into the latest season and give viewers of Oliver's show some other hits they're guaranteed to love!
The Show is Back
Last Week Tonight, the show John Oliver started upon leaving Jon Stewart and The Daily Show, is a satirical and informational program that covers the events of the previous week. The critically acclaimed show, known for its multiple Peabody and Emmy awards, and harassing Adam Driver, has plenty of news to cover since it last aired in November. But if fans of Oliver's want to escape the endless news cycle, here's what Ranker recommends for fans of the show!
What We Do in the Shadows
Based on the Taika Waititi film of the same name, this FX comedy is about vampires who want to take over the world from their home in Staten Island. The series revolves around the four vampire roommates, who are hundreds of years old, struggling to fit in with modern society.
Madam Secretary
This should satisfy Last Week Tonight fans who can't get enough of that political drama. Madam Secretary stars Téa Leone as Elizabeth McCord, a former CIA agent unexpectedly turned Secretary of State. Executive produced by Morgan Freeman, the show offers a thoughtful, balanced perspective on many of the divisive political issues present in our country.
Shrill
This Hulu original comedy stars SNL's Amy Bryant as Annie, a woman dealing with unreasonable expectations from her boss, her boyfriend, and the entire world. Like Last Week Tonight, Shrill manages to balance their take on social issues with enough punchlines to make even the most stressful topics outright entertaining.
