77-year-old actor Sam Elliott had shared some serious criticism about Jane Campion's film The Power of the Dog.

On the February 28 episode of popular podcast 'WTF with Marc Maron,' Elliott guest starred. The pair discussed Campion's Oscar-nominated film, The Power of the Dog. Elliott called it "piece of s--t", and said that it didn't properly represent and depict cowboys in the 1920s.

Elliot is known for his roles in cowboy films such as The Quick and the Dead, Tombstone, and cult-classic The Big Lebowski.

Elliott stated that Campion, being raised in New Zealand, does not properly understand the lifestyle of a cowboy.

He said specifically:

"What the f--k does this woman from down there know about the American West? And why in the f--k did she shoot this movie in New Zealand and call it Montana? And say this is the way it was? That f--king rubbed me the wrong way, pal."

Elliott seemed to make comments towards the way homosexuality was represented in the film too, as Benedict Cumberbatch's character is a closeted gay man.

He also said that in the film, the stars looked "more like Chippendales dancers than cowboys".

"That's what all these f--king cowboys in that movie looked like," Elliott said. "They're running around in chaps and no shirts. There's all these allusions of homosexuality throughout the f--king movie."

Host Marc Maron replied,

"I think that's what the movie is about."

The film has received twelve Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Score.
