Robin Roberts recently announced that she will be taking a break from hosting Good Morning America, following her partner Amber Laign's diagnosis with breast cancer.
The anchorwoman took to Twitter with a video about the situation, where she said,
"My sweet Amber wanted me to tell you something that she's been facing. At the end of last year, Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery last month and this morning will begin chemotherapy."
She said the prognosis (thankfully) looks good, and that they've been surrounded by friends and family to help them through the process. They also say they're thankful to their loved ones for keeping the diagnosis a secret until they were ready to share it. Roberts continued,
"She and I have been together almost 17 years and have helped each other through our challenges like my journey with cancer. It's my turn now to be there for her like she was for me."
Roberts beat breast cancer, herself, in 2007. Five years later, she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare bone marrow disease, which she overcame through a bone marrow transplant thanks to her sister, the donor.
Roberts stresses that she and Laign are remaining optimistic through it all. She ended the video by saying,
"We know many, many are facing cancer and other challenges. Like my mama said, ‘Everybody's got something.' Please know that you are in our prayers and hopefully we're in yours too. Blessings to all."
