Pregnant Rihanna Honored With Marble Statue at Met Gala

Rihanna may not have attended this year's Met Gala, but she was still there in spirit. Or rather, there in statue.

The singer is currently in her third trimester as she's expecting her first child with boyfriend, rapper A$ap Rocky. As her due date approaches, Rihanna is unable to travel, thus could not make it to the 2022 Met Gala.

Rihanna is known for making a splash at the annual fashion event with her iconic looks. Fans everywhere were disappointed when they learned she would not be in attendance this year, but thanks to Vogue, they still got a historic look.

In partnership with the Met museum, Vogue unveiled a virtual statue to honor the music mogul and her pregnancy journey. Nestled inside The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Greco-Roman galleries, the statue recreates Rihanna's May 2022 Vogue cover, where she showcased her baby bump in an Alaïa bodysuit.

Rihanna's CGI statue was show where the renowned “Eirene (The Personification of Peace)” typically stands. Vogue hailed it as the "highest-profile marble goddess" in the gallery before unveiling their take on the piece, shocking fans everywhere.

Fans weren't the only ones surprised, as Rihanna herself reacted to the honor by reposting it on her own page, writing,

"Shut down the met in marble! What’s more gilded than that? Lol! Thank you @metmuseum and @voguemagazine for this historic tribute! y’all bad for this one!"

The singer has been making headlines during the past year for her iconic maternity looks. In her interview with Vogue, Rihanna said that she wants to "redefine" what pregnancy looks like. She shared,

“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, 'There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle.' I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing. [...] My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?"
