After a viral Twitter campaign, One Day At A Time is officially coming back!
In March, Netflix cancelled the sitcom One Day at a Time after three seasons. Fans immediately turned to Twitter, launching #SaveODAAT to trending status worldwide. On Thursday of last week, Pop TV announced that it will revive the series for a fourth season.
One Day At A Time is making history as the first TV series to move from a streaming service to a cable network. However, this show is no stranger to going beyond the status quo. In each season, ODAAT consistently showcases diversity and LGBTQ representation. Also, the show addresses issues like immigration, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
“How amazing it is to be involved with this brilliant and culturally significant series that deals with important themes one minute while making you laugh the next,” Pop TV president Brad Schwartz said in a statement.
The series centers around three generations of a Cuban-American family living in Los Angeles. Plus, the cast features Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, and Rita Moreno. Showrunners Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce have released a statement thanking fans for helping to save the show.
“We’d especially like to thank all of the fans for their undying support, helping us turn #SaveODAAT into #MoreODAAT," said Kellett and Royce.
Thirteen new episodes of One Day At A Time will air on Pop TV in 2020. The cable network is owned by CBS, which will air reruns.
