Norman Lear received the Carol BurnettAward for Achievement in Television, the Golden Globe's highest honor, at the age of 98.

Lear is the third recipient of the honor for this year's ceremony. His predecessors include Carol Burnett herself (2019) and Ellen Degeneres (2020).

Lear is best known and recognized for his work on iconic shows like All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, and a heap of others that are the gold standard of American TV.

This award will sit on his shelf alongside his 16 Emmy wins, two Peabody Awards, and an Oscar nomination.

"Norman Lear is among the most prolific creators of this generation," said HFPA president Ali Sar. "His career has encompassed both the Golden Age and Streaming Era, throughout which his progressive approach addressing controversial topics through humor prompted a cultural shift that allowed social and political issues to be reflected in television."

In the clip, Lear says, "At close to 99, I can tell you that I have never lived alone. I have never laughed alone and that has as much to do with my being here today as anything else I know."
