HBO Max just released the trailer for the new adaptation of The Witches, and it just might save Halloween!
The Witches, which originated as a children's book by Roald Dahl, joins other classic stories such as James and the Giant Peach and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as it receives a new film adaptation.
The film, which was originally supposed to be released in theaters this month, will instead go straight to streaming due to the effects of theater shutdowns in response to COVID-19. Still, the star-studded cast and witty story should be enough to pull in high viewership. Cast members include starring roles played by Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci, as well as many featured roles played by Morgana Robinson, Kristin Chenoweth, and Chris Rock to name a few.
You may remember another scary version of the story as a film adaptation was produced in 1990. For that project, the legendary Jim Henson's Creature Shop was hired on to bring the special effects to life. This go-around, horror legend Guillermo del Toro served as a writer to ensure the project lives up to the predecessor.

That's going to be one tough act to follow. Anne Hathaway will be walking in the footsteps of Angelica Huston whom played the leading role decades ago.
Already, the film's release is trending on twitter!
