Welcome to new music Friday, where we show you all the new music that came out...well, this Friday. If you need me to explain further I'm happy to do so. So you see, it's Friday, and...
Selena Gomez Brings Out the Español
Selena Gomez, the Wizard of Waverly Place herself, is making her way back to music with a new EP of 7 beautiful songs entirely in Spanish. She joins, among others, Kali Uchis in making an album entirely in Spanish, embracing her Latin roots and rejecting the idea of singing in English to appeal to mainstream audiences.
Hats off to you, Selena, this is an amazing album.
Nick Jonas Comes Back Strong
The little Jonas is back in action with Spaceman, his highly anticipated solo album following the reunion of him and his brothers last year. He released two singles last week that got us nothing but excited for the album release, and now that it's finally here, I can't wait to hear that silky smooth voice again.
Iann Dior Collabs with ILLENIUM
The emo king Iann Dior is back with four new songs in a collab project with electro artist ILLENIUM. It's a very interesting diversion from an artist who typically sticks to guitar riff beats.
CHIKA Begins Her Takeover
CHIKA is a name you should remember for when she's running hip hop, because she's unbelievably talented. She's an amazing singer and rapper with dreamy, melodic music that reminds one of no one in particular, because it's incredibly unique.
If I had to compare it, take pre-Big Day Chance the Rapper, then give it some Tierra Whack, and maybe a bit of Smino. If that doesn't get you excited, go and listen to all those people, then listen to CHIKA immediately. She's so so so SO talented.
I'm not kidding or exaggerating, this is already my favorite album of 2021, and I finished it five minutes ago.
Paul McCartney and...Dominic Fike?
In a sentence I never thought I'd be saying out loud, Beatles legend Paul McCartney and pop sensation Dominic Fike have collaborated on a track? It feels like an old Beatles song with a modern twist, a beautiful amalgamation of music I didn't even know I needed. Bravo.
Brent FaiyazÂ
If you haven't heard of Brent Faiyaz yet, which I doubt, take this opportunity to familiarize yourself. The R&B game hasn't been the same since the Columbia, Maryland native popped up on the scene. He can make you feel relaxed and at peace while also feeling like the coolest person in the entire world at the same time. I love it, you'll love it, go listen.
Giveon's Takeover Starts Now
Giveon's fame has been steadily growing for a while, and now that he's up to 17 million monthly listeners prior to the album's release, it feels like the right time for him to fully hit the mainstream. It's very rare to find an artist this unique, with this good of a sound.
Addicted to Jorja
Jorja Smith will be a name on the lips of music critics for years to come. When you listen to her sing, you don't think "Wow, this girl can sing", you think Lauryn Hill, you think Rihanna, you think SZA. You think greatness, and she's well on her way to it.
Lady A
The recently renamed Lady A apparently isn't satisfied with sitting on the laurels of their ACM nominations, coming right back in the game with another single to send you to heaven.
Grouplove is Back for More
The alternative indie band that left us Tongue Tied back in the 2010s is bringing their talents into the new decade with a brand new album for the fans and the ears of the world.
