Paws up!
Gus Kenworthy has secured his spot in Olympic history with a silver medal in skiing back in 2014.
The star athlete also won the hearts of millions for being part of the first same-sex kiss shown during the Olympics in 2018.
"In 2018, Adam Rippon and I were the first two openly gay men to compete for team USA in a Winter Olympics. It's crazy to me to think that... that really wasn't very long ago and we were the first two. To go to Tokyo and there's like 100+ out LGBTQ athletes... it's just incredible," Kenworthy said.
While traveling the world with his sport, Gus has also embraced his philanthropic side by advocating for pet adoption. Gus and his rescue pup, Birdie, are now partnering with Autotrader to help raise awareness around the importance of adopting a furry friend.
"Adoption rates definitely spiked during the pandemic. I think adoption is just so wonderful. I really think that any pet that has been rescued... they understand they've been rescued. They're just wonderful, loyal companions. Birdie came from a dog meat farm in South Korea. While we were there, a dog gave birth in one of the cages, and one of those puppies is Birdie. We're like... connected."
Autotrader is continuing to support Adopt-A-Pet by creating a limited-edition 2022 Dog Calendar (Calen-Dog) for folks to enter for the chance to win a special copy of their own!
Naturally, Gus and his adorable pup grace the cover of the calendar that feature some cute and adoptable friends from Adopt-A-Pet. Plus, some favorite rescue pup social media stars are featured in the calendar, including GoldenWoofs, Rambo The Puppy and WillieCute.
"Dogtrader.com is an incredible website that Autotrader has built. It helps you find dogs that are available for adoption in your area, as well as the best cars for jobs. It's a great little gig."
You can enter for a chance to win your own calendar on Dogtrader's website.
National Dog Day has been an important day for Autotrader every year for nearly a decade. As part of the program, Autotrader makes a donation to Adopt-A-Pet while also continuing to host Dogtrader.com, to help dogs around the country get adopted and find their forever home.
