Madonna is Directing and Co-writing a Biopic About Her Life

Madonna is partnering with Universal to direct and co-write her biopic.

Madonna is teaming up with Universal to develop a biopic about her life and career.

Madonna confirmed on Tuesday, September 15th that she will be directing and co-writing her own biopic. She is working with Academy Award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody to develop the script for the film.

This not the first time Madonna will be sitting in the directors chair. The iconic pop star has previously directed works including the historical drama W.E. (2011) which she also co-wrote.

Madonna has also acted in various films throughout her career such as A League of Their Own (1992) with Tom Hanks and Dick Tracy (1990) with Warren Beatty. Amy Pascal, who Madonna worked with on A League of Their Own, will be producing the biopic.

On her website, Madonna said, "I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."

The singer has been teasing the project on her Instagram for several weeks now but did not officially confirm the biopic until yesterday.

In 2017, a script was in development at Universal written by Elyse Hollander about Madonna's life but Madonna strongly criticized the script on Instagram in April of 2017. She captioned the post "Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool."

This untitled project is an opportunity for Madonna to write and depict her life's story. There is no word yet on when we can expect to see the film on screen.
