The late Kobe Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 seasons, resulting in the basketball star to be an adopted Angelino. From first pitches to movie premieres, the Black Mamba could be found in many LA circles. Now, in honor of Mamba Day on 8/24, the City of Angels is dedicating a Los Angeles street to Bryant and his legacy.
Yesterday, LA and the sports world came together to celebrate 8/24, otherwise known as Mamba Day. The late NBA All-Star was famous for his "mamba mentality," which has inspired millions of people to be the best they can be. Now, Los Angeles is honoring Kobe with distinction. According to city councilman Herb J. Wesson Jr., Figueroa Street near Staples Center, the home of the Lakers, will soon become Kobe Bryant Avenue.

Councilman Wesson Jr. took to social media to announce the change, coming as a wonderful surprise to Angelinos and Mamba fans around the world.
"Figueroa St. will soon be Kobe Bryant Blvd. between Olympic & MLK. Kobe's legacy is bigger than basketball. #KobeBryantBlvd will be a reminder to everyone, young and old who drive down it, there is no obstacle too big and that with the #Mambamentality, anything is possible."
In light of the tragic death of Kobe Bryant on January 26th, this year's Mamba Day took on a much more somber tone, with love and tributes to the late star pouring in from all corners of the Earth. From NBA players to politicians, Kobe Bryant's legacy is far reaching and will be cemented as one of the all time greats.
