"I think I'm really driven to characters and stories that allow for so much more to be told within the female storyline... I never wanted to be like the token female in a a story."
Lily Collins is starring in "Emily in Paris," the new romantic comedy-drama from "Sex in the City" creator Darren Star. It's likely no coincidence that Lily would embrace this particular role given her track record of playing story driven female characters. Subsequent to her film debut in 2009's "The Blind Side," the film and television projects that followed established Lily as one the young talents in Hollywood to keep an eye on. A Golden Globe nomination for her performance in "Rules Don't Apply" served notice that Lily was not just a child of celebrity parents (her father is legendary recording artist Phil Collins, her mother is actress Jill Tavelman), but a talent on the rise in her own right.
While "Sex in the City" comparisons are going to be inevitable for "Emily in Paris," the story is engaging and the title character is a strong female which is in tune with Lily's criteria in selecting a role. Lily is also conscious of personal and professional growth when choosing her projects. Advocate Channel applauds this week's #SeeHER Spotlight Celebrity, Lily Collins.
"Emily in Paris" is available for streaming on Netflix.
