'Sex and The City' sequel 'And Just Like That' was released in December of 2021, on HBO Max. The series did not include Kim Cattrall's iconic character, "Samantha Jones."
When word first broke that Cattrall would not be part of 'And Just Like That' there was a lot of speculation as to why. While the actress was not in the show, her character Samantha was still brought up. Samantha's absence was due to being relocated to London after a dispute with "Carrie Bradshaw," played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Cattrall revealed back in 2017 that she was "never friends" with her costars and the onset relationships were "toxic" according to BuzzFeed News.
The executive producer of 'And Just Like That', Michael Patrick King was asked if he would leave “the door open for her to come back.” He responded:
“No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in 'And Just Like That', because she’s said what she had said,” King told Variety.
King explained that his stance was firm on Cattrall making a return.
“The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction...Magically thinking, it’s great to have Samantha. I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again.” according to US Weekly.
Cattrall will likely have no response to this as a source told US Weekly that she:
"isn’t even going to talk about not being part of And Just Like That.”
