Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan are coming together for the highly anticipated release of their new film Ammonite.

Ammonite follows paleontologists Mary Anning and Charlotte Murchison in Victorian England. The pair eventually fall in love, leaving the two open to critics while working to find their way in a less understanding time.

Originally, the film was set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival, but both events were cancelled in accordance to pandemic protocols. Still, Ammonite will get its time to shine when it premieres at the Toronto Film Festival next month.

This is the most recent project to come from director Francis Lee, known for God's Own Country, another British gay romance. The film went on to win many awards including World Cinema Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Winslet and Ronan's on screen romance begins when Charlotte Murchison (Ronan) begins working as an apprentice to Mary Anning (Winslet). Already, their differing personalities and social class make them an unlikely pair, yet their relationship quickly grows beyond what was considered the norm for their time.

A wide release date has yet to be decided for the film.
