After talks with Netflix, Apple, and MGM, Netflix won the rights to an adaptation of upcoming novel Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam.
A Star-Studded Cast
Set to star in the film are Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. The two have previously worked together in the 1993 film, The Pelican Brief. Director Sam Esmail, who is known for having worked on the television series Mr. Robot, is set to direct this Leave the World Behind adaptation.
The production team consists of Roberts through Red Om Films and Washington with Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton through Esmail Corp. Author Rumaan Alam will also serve as executive producer.
'Leave the World Behind'
Rumaan Alam's next novel, Leave the World Behind, published by HarperCollins, will be available for purchase in October of 2020. Alam is also known for Rich and Pretty: A Novel.
According to the official synopsis, the book is a "magnetic story about two families, strangers to each other, who are forced together on a long weekend gone terribly wrong."
The release date of Netflix's film adaptation is still unknown, but novel Leave the World Behind will be available this October.
