Joseph Quinn Talks Similarities to Eddie Munson on Stranger Things

Netflix

The internet (and Doja Cat) have been going wild over Joseph Quinn's performance as Eddie Munson in the fourth season of "Stranger Things." Even as a completely new character, the rocker has managed to capture the hearts of his audience.

Quinn recently sat down with Advocate Channel correspondent Rachel Smith, where he revealed just how similar he is to the role. While he unfortunately prefers to keep his hair short, Quinn disclosed that he shares a love of music with his onscreen counterpart.

"I've always liked some eighties nostalgia," he said. "A lot of the music made back then I really enjoy."

As for Quinn's favorite eighties tracks, he cited "Master of Puppets" by Metallica, and "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears, or as he described the latter;

"'You know that song in 'Donnie Darko'? That's a banger, love that song."

Twenty-nine years old, Quinn just missed the '80s. Despite not being alive to witness the time period "Stranger Things" is set in, like much of his audience, Quinn finds the era "familiar" after experiencing the series. He could easily connect with his character and the script, as he explained,

"I think everyone's been so affected by the cultural impact of the show. I've definitely gone back to the eighties with a kind of familiarity that I wouldn't have had because obviously I wasn't there."

The actor believes that the show creators, the Duffer brothers, are the creative force that makes the show "work." While most hail the brothers as powerhouses of the science fiction and horror genres, Quinn praised them for their ability to appeal to a younger demographic, himself included.

"The [Duffer] brothers are so good at creating this world that feels familiar, to even especially a really young demographic who weren't there," he stated. "I don't know how they've done it."
