JoJo Siwa is taking her career to new heights! After her hit single "Boomerang" became a viral sensation in 2016, Siwa quickly gained notable recognition. Siwa, now 18, started her career as a dancer on Dance Moms and quickly became a worldwide feel-good sensation as a singer, dancer, and YouTuber. advocatechannel.com sat down with the star, her mom, Jessalyn Siwa, and the winners of her recent show Siwa's Dance Pop Revolution to discuss their time on the series and more.
JoJo is no stranger to the popstar world, but with her newest show, she's taken on a new role-- mentor. Siwa's Dance Pop Revolution sees a group of girls, as they compete for a spot in a new girl group, XOMG POP, mentored by JoJo.
"It's really fun," Jojo said. "It's been a blast. Every day in rehearsals is just better than the last."
Jessalyn shared her inspiration for wanting to start a girl group in the first place, saying:
"I've always wanted to make a girl group. Even when JoJo was a kid, we talked about making a girl group. And then we ran with JoJo, and now JoJo is a little older, and I was like, here we go again! Let's do it, and let's do it with seven this time!"
XOMG POP member Kinley Cunningham, detailed what rehearsals were really like behind the scenes.
"...It was like a really really good experience for all of us. And even though it was really stressful, it was a really good experience for like going through all the challenges they gave us and like pushing us to the next level."
XOMG POP member Leigha Rose Sanderson added,
"I think just all of those long and hard days made it us even stronger for now, since we made the group. So, it’s prepared us for what’s to come in the future!"
A finalist on Dancing with the Stars season 30, JoJo understands the intense pressure that competition shows can bring. But still, she calls her time on the ABC hit "the best experience ever."
She said,
"You know, elimination shows, as these kids know, are very, very tough... but it was my third elimination show that I'd been on. So, I – I understand how they work, I understand the process, I understand the feelings you go through, the stress. But 'Dancing with the Stars' is crazy! The work that goes into that show is unreal, but it has changed the way that I am as a human, and I am so grateful for that!"
JoJo noted that she now understands how her DWTS partner Jenna Johnson felt while she was performing.
"She was like, you're my little sister, and you're doing this, and it's so nice to watch you do it... But then, just a few days ago, I saw them do the same thing, and I was like, wow, I get it!"
