Johnny Depp is set to be represented by Camille Vasquez for a second time. Only now, the defendant's attorney has been promoted to a firm partner at Brown Rudnick following the win against Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard.
Depp is involved in a 2018 assault-related lawsuit from a former colleague that is now slated to go to trial. The plaintiff is Gregory Brooks, a location manager who worked on Depp's crime-drama film, "City of Lies." Brooks alleged that Depp punched him twice in the rib cage back in April of 2017. He also claimed Depp asked him to punch him back in the face, supposedly offering him 100,000 dollars.
The fight was claimed to break out over a heated fight after Brooks relayed a message to Depp that they were running out of time for filming.
In the court docs, Brooks alleges Depp also inflicted "emotional distress” through verbal attacks. Brook's suit claimed that after the alleged incident, he suffered physical pain and psychological injury. The docs also claim that Depp's own bodyguards physically removed Depp from the scene and Brooks claims the actor's breath "reeked of alcohol."
"A City Of Lies" script supervisor, Emma Danoff, submitted a declaration stating that she witnessed the altercation, and it was nothing like what Brooks described in his lawsuit.
Danoff described the scene that which Brooks allegedly berated an African American homeless woman with "racial amd derogatory slurs" because she was in his way. Depp was sitting next to her about 25 feet away when it happened.
"He immediately stood up from our shared seat on the edge of a planter bench and went over to Brooks to stand up for the woman," Danoff said. "Mr. Depp said to Mr. Brooks, You can't talk to her like that. Do you think she is something less than you? Who do you think you are? How dare you?"

Danoff said there were no punches thrown, and there was no offer of $100,000 for Brooks to punch Depp. She also shared that she has "40 time-stamped photos that prove it."
For his part, Depp alleges the attacks on Brooks were in "self-defense/defense of others.” The actor's lawyers responded to the 2018 lawsuit claiming Depp was "provoked" and that Brooks made him "feel unsafe."
Depp will make an appearance at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles on July 25. As of now, the damages that Brooks is suing for are not known.
