On Monday, J.J. Abrams and his wife Katie McGarth announced through their production company, Bad Robot, that they would be donating $10 million over the next five years to anti-racism campaigns.
This pledge of charitable donations comes in the wake of the tragic death of George Floyd. Abrams is known for directing hit blockbuster films such as, Mission: Impossible III, Super 8, Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens andStar Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. They will be donating $200,000 to each each group as a start. Organizations include Black Future Lab, Black Lives Matter LA, Community Coalition of South Los Angeles, Equal Justice Initiative, and Know Your Rights Camp.
This generous donation comes to light in the wake of a number of riots and protests taking place all over the country in response to police brutality.
