"Hello and welcome to the Pandemmys." Last night marked the 72nd edition of the Emmy Awards and late night host Jimmy Kimmel stepped up to host the biggest night in television live from Los Angeles. Between the quarantine bubbles, trash fires, and even a llama- Kimmel brought a lot of gags. After all, "you can't have a virus without a host!"
Here's the top moments we saw from Kimmel!
Opening monologue
Jimmy Kimmel
Kimmel kicked off the show with a classic opening monologue! He teased the need for an Emmy Awards during a pandemic while also celebrating the need for comedic relief. Viewers were confused at first to see a packed audience present for the event. Halfway through, however, it was revealed that Kimmel was editing in clips of audiences from past years. At one point, he even cut to himself laughing in the audience from a previous Emmy night. The one person who WAS in the audience was Jason Bateman who joked that he wanted to "eat shrimp with the cast of The Crown.
Sanitizing the envelope
Jimmy Kimmel and Jennifer Aniston
In order to ensure proper sanitization, Kimmel made sure to spray each envelope heavily with disinfectant. Taking it one step further, he and Jennifer Aniston lit the envelope on fire to rid it of any possible germs. Luckily, Aniston is good with a fire extinguisher and they were able to announce Catherine O'Hara of Schitt's Creek had won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Derek the USPS guy

Having run out of envelopes, Kimmel got a delivery from USPS guy "Derek" -comedically played by Anthony Carrigan. The two joked about Derek's possible ties to Russia while also reminding viewers the importance of the US Postal Service and voting in the election.

Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington
Kimmel checked in on the live feed of Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington who decided 2020 was over. The two producers, with friends, had their own New Year's Eve countdown and celebrated 2021. Kimmel joked, "I wish I could kiss you guys too." Kerry Washington immediately rejected the offer, "no, we don't want that. Thank you."
Quarantine check-in
Bryan Cranston
Kimmel took a slight pause from awards to check in on some of television's biggest stars to see how they're keeping busy during quarantine. Famous faces included Bryan Cranston, Kenan Thompson, Mindy Kaling, and David Spade dressed up as Joe Exotic from Tiger King.
