Jimmi Simpson stars in ‘Perpetual Grace, LTD’ on EPIX, and critics are raving about the series! He tells us more about his latest project and why television is a ‘wonderful’ medium for storytelling.
Best known for his roles on Westworld, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Black Mirror, Jimmi Simpson is now working on another TV hit!
Jimmi stars in Perpetual Grace, LTD alongside Ben Kingsley, Jacki Weaver, Luis Guzman, and Kurtwood Smith.
The actor says he chooses to get involved in the projects that are most meaningful and enjoyable to him, so it’s a bonus when fans respond positively to them as well.
“It’s just beyond belief that I get to be a part of something that so many people think is great, because I pick projects based on what I think is great,” Jimmi says. “I just find the pieces that move me and then I go after them and see if I can be a part of them.”
The first season of the modern noir drama includes ten hour-long episodes. Jimmi says this format allows for better storytelling and compels talented writers to get involved.
“The medium of television, being such a wonderful place to tell a story in this elongated format of 10 episodes of one hour as opposed to just the two hours in a movie, it’s actually drawing great writers, better writers sometimes than in the film world.”
Praising writers Steven Conrad and Bruce Terris, Jimmi says that viewers can see themselves in any of the characters and imagine what they would do in their shoes.
“I hope the experience that [viewers] get is the human experience," Jimmi says. "It’s something to bring us all together, to understand we’re all weak, we’re all powerful, we’re all selfish, and we’re all infinitely loving.”
