Jim Carrey has spoken out about the Will Smith-Chris Rock altercation at the 94th Academy Awards.

The "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" star recently interviewed with CBS' Gayle King to promote his new movie, but the actor also took some time to touch on the controversial actions of Smith at the Oscars. Just a few minutes after Smith smacked Rock, he received a standing ovation for winning Best Actor for his role in "King Richard."

Carrey said:

"I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation. Hollywood is just spineless... and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore. He didn't want the hassle. I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be ubiquitous."

Carrey felt that Smith should've been escorted out the venue. According to LAPD, Rock has declined to file a police report on Smith. Carrey expressed how it would've been okay for Smith to "yell" from the audience or tweet his "disapproval," but slapping him was too far.

He continued on to say:

"You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face 'cause they said words. It came out of nowhere because Will has something going on inside him that's frustrated. And I wish him the best, I really do. I don't have anything against Will Smith. He's done great things. But that was not a good moment."

To conclude the discussion of the topic, Carrey believed the action was a "selfish" moment that took away the hard work the actors have put into their films.

"It casts a pall over everybody's shining moment last night, you know? A lot of people worked really hard to get to that place and to have their moment in the sun and to get their award for the really hard work they did," Carrey said.
