Iliza Shlesinger brings a real-life dating disaster to the big screen in her new film, Good on Paper. Correspondent Rachel Smith sat down with Shlesinger, the movie's lead actress and screenwriter, to learn more about the film.
The comedy follows a stand up comedian who meets a guy on an airplane who seems to be a good fit for her, but it turns out everything may not be what it seems. It's only right that Shlesinger's character is a stand up comedian as she is a stand up comedian in real life. With five Netflix specials under her belt, Shlesinger has made a name for herself. She also just announced a world tour called Iliza: Back In Action.
Believe it or not, the plot of the movie is based off a true story from Shlesinger's real life.
When asked if she believed "truth is stranger than fiction," Shlesinger replied:
"I don't have a lot of weird things happen to me and so this story brought me to my knees. It was so insane. As a comic, I'm like of course I have to share this, if only to make it okay in my own head, and then in sharing it I found out this is a thing that happens to a lot of people."
Shlesinger took to Instagram to share her excitement about seeing her face on a billboard in Times Square. According to the post, Good on Paper has been six years in the making.
Shlesinger gave this piece of advice to women trying to navigate dating life and avoid a dating nightmare:
"Trust yourself. You're doing fine. Trust your instincts, but never stop being a trusting, nice, caring person."
