Idris Elba Talks The Possibility Of A 'Luther' Film

Idris Elba

The psychological thriller is one step closer to become a feature film!

Idris Elba has teased the possibility of a film adaptation of the BBC crime drama Luther yet again, causing fans to hope it becomes a reality!

The British actor was promoting his semi-autobiographical series In the Long Run at a virtual event when the question of Luther becoming a feature film arose.

According to Sky News, Elba spoke on the subject saying:

"There isn't a real formal plan for Luther at the moment. I've made it very clear that I'd like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther."

Luther, created by Neil Cross, launched on BBC in 2010 and follows Elba as the titular detective, John Luther, whose psychological killers that he hunts begin to torment and plague him. The series has completed five season so far and Elba has won two Golden Globes and a Royal Television Society best actor award for this role.

Elba has teased a Luther film before in 2018 to the UK magazine Metro, saying:

"Luther has all the ingredients to echo those classic films of the 90s like 'Seven' and 'Along Came A Spider' and I think what we'd like to attempt is use that as a blueprint to create it. It will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther."

In the meantime, fans can watch Luther on Amazon Prime and see Elba in season three of In the Long Run, which premieres on Sky One July 22nd.
