The Critics Choice Association just announced today that the actress, now turned director, will be honored with the 6th Annual SeeHer Award at the Critics Choice Awards on January 9th of the new year. The SeeHer Award has been honoring those in the industry who have continuously brought gender and racial equality to the screen while shattering stereotypes through portrayals of authentic roles.
Halle Berry is being recognized for her portrayal of various roles that represent women and girls in a brighter light. Over the past decade, the diverse roles that Berry has taken on has distinguished her as one of the leading actresses in Hollywood for female empowerment. With the release of Bruised on Netflix, which stands as Berry's directorial debut, Berry has broken even more barriers for women in media.
Aside from the SeeHer Award that Berry will be adding to her already impressive resume, she has also received numerous other recognitions, like the Academy Award for Best Actress. She was the first Black woman to receive that distinction, further attesting to how she has trail-blazed through Hollywood over the course of her career. On top of these two awards, Berry has also been honored as an Emmy, SAG, and NAACP Image Award recipient, on top of several others.
Most recently, Berry has been recognized for expanding her acting career into the director's chair, with the highly-anticipating release Bruised, which she also stars in. The film was released to Netflix in November, and during its first week on the platform, it ranked number one in the US and number two globally.
Berry can next be watched in her latest project with director Roland Emmerich, Moonfall, which is a sci-fi epic following the events after earth falls out of orbit. With Bruised encapsulating all of the strides and successes she achieved during 2021, Moonfall will continue to expand her accomplishments into the new year.
Aside from all of the on-screen achievements Berry has made, her philanthropic dedications cannot go unnoticed. Throughout her career, Berry has teamed up with numerous organizations all with the aim of improving living standards for women and children in underprivileged communities. Currently, she is serving as a chair member for the Jenesse Center in L.A.to assist and empower female victims of domestic violence.
Above all of her commitments to bettering struggling communities, Berry also founded the platform rē•spin, a service purposed in making access to health and wellness content and products more readily available.
