ABC has renewed primetime medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” for its 19th season. Star Ellen Pompeo, who currently serves as co-executive producer, will be promoted to executive producer as she returns to play Meredith Grey.
ABC revealed in a statement that season 19 would,
“explore the ever-expanding world of modern medicine through the eyes of beloved returning and new characters".
After so many years running, the show is still top-rated in the 18-to-49 demographic. It also averages 6.7 million total viewers per episode. “Grey’s Anatomy,” which was created by Shonda Rhimes, had its premiere back in 2005 on ABC and has grown to be a "one of a kind" drama tv show.
Rhimes stated,
“I couldn’t be more excited that we get to keep telling the stories of Meredith, Bailey, Richard and all of the other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial for another season. This is a true testament to Krista Vernoff, the cast, the crew and all the writers who keep the audience on the edge of their seat week after week. And it would not be possible without the generations of incredible fans who have supported Grey’s Anatomy for so many years.”
"Grey’s Anatomy" returns, Thursday, February 24, 9/8c, on ABC
